Corps Knowledge is a campaign of the New York Campaign for Achievement Now (NYCAN) to promote and support the work of Teach For America (TFA) and to highlight what its alumni have done to make our children’s classrooms better, and the work many of them continue to do to make our country better.

Lindsay hill

ADVISORY BOARD MEMBER

Lindsay joined the Raikes Foundation as a program officer in 2015. In addition to her national education strategy work, she co-leads the foundation's efforts around diversity, equity and inclusion. Prior to joining the Raikes Foundation, Lindsay spent four years as the founding executive director of Teach For America – Washington. She began her career as a fourth-grade teacher in Brooklyn through Teach For America and later worked as a program director, supporting new teachers in three of New York City's boroughs. Lindsay has also served as the director of training and support for the "I Have a Dream" Foundation, and she sits on the board of directors for the Bureau of Fearless Ideas, WA Charters, and Communities and Parents for Public Schools - Seattle. She holds a joint bachelor's degree in sociology and public policy from Pomona College and a master's degree in teaching from Pace University.


Kevin huffman

ADVISORY BOARD MEMBER

Kevin is an independent consultant and former Tennessee commissioner of education, where he was responsible for the academic progress of nearly one million students. During Huffman’s tenure, Tennessee had the largest state gains on the National Assessment of Educational Progress -- commonly called “the nation’s report card -- including the largest gains for African American students. Huffman led a radical transformation of state policies and an overhaul of the state education agency, resulting in growth in state test results, ACT scores, and high school graduation rates during his term.   Huffman began his education career as a first- and second-grade bilingual teacher in the Houston Independent School District, teaching students in English and Spanish. After attending law school, Huffman represented school districts, state departments of education and universities, working on policy and litigation matters at the Washington D.C. law firm of Hogan & Hartson. Huffman then joined the senior management of Teach For America in 2000, serving as the general counsel, the senior vice president of growth strategy and development, and the executive vice president of public affairs as Teach For America grew into the largest provider of new teachers in the country.   Huffman has written opinion columns for a range of publications including as a regular contributor to the Washington Post. Huffman won the Post’s national writing competition to find “America’s Next GreatPundit” in 2009. He is currently writing a book about the challenge of building a first-rate public school system in the face of modern political dysfunction.   Huffman graduated from Swarthmore College with a B.A. in English Literature, and from the New York University School of Law where he was on the Law Review. He has served on the Board of Trustees of the University of Tennessee and the Tennessee Board of Regents, and the Boards of Directors of the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) and Chiefs for Change. Huffman was honored with Teach For America’s highest honor for alumni, the Peter Jennings Award for Civic Leadership, in 2014. 


RESHMA SINGH

Advisory board member

Reshma is an education advocate and independent consultant. Reshma most recently launched and served as the Founding Executive Director of the Partnership for Educational Justice (PEJ). At PEJ, she led and oversaw the organization’s first campaign, Wright v. NY, a lawsuit filed by nine families that challenges NY’s teacher tenure, teacher dismissal and layoff policies. Wright v. NY has successfully survived a Motion to Dismiss.   Previously, she was the Vice President of External Relations for Achievement First, a non-profit charter management organization. In that capacity, Reshma managed authorizer relations, governance, student recruitment, advocacy and parent engagement for Achievement First’s growing network of public charter schools in Connecticut, New York and Rhode Island. Reshma also led Achievement First’s expansion efforts, securing approval to open the organization's first schools in Rhode Island. She began her career in education at Teach For America, where she worked from 2001-2009, serving as Vice President of Development Operations and Development Director for Teach For America’s New York City region.   Reshma holds an M.P.A. from New York University’s Wagner School of Public Service and a bachelor’s degree in urban studies and political science from Rutgers College. She is also an alumna of The Broad Residency in Urban Education.
